  What is Zen Bow?
Zen, the mind of Zen, is a state of tranquility, a kind of behavior based on "quietness". The bow refers to the art of archery. Archery practisers emphasize the shape and integrity. When practicing archery, they also need to have a pure and peaceful heart and nothing else. Both Zen and the bow are a kind of inner peace. Zen is the body of the bow, and the bow is the function of Zen. The Zen bow uses an immobile mind—the Zen mind to draw the bow and shoot arrows.
Ancient Bow Exhibition Hall: Bows and arrows are one of the earliest long-range weapons invented by mankind. Academic research shows that at the turn of the Paleolithic and Neolithic ages, there was a Mesolithic age. During this period, many parts of the world began to invent bows and arrows for hunting and warfare.
According to legend, bows and arrows in our country originated from the time of the Yellow Emperor. The legend of Yi shooting for ten days shows that there have been skilled archers in the summer. In the oracle bone inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty, there have been words related to bows, arrows, shooting, and arrows. The Zhou Dynasty was a period of complete victory for the development of ancient bows and arrows in our country. Archery has become the most common social phenomenon: for example, the emperor and the princes will shoot together, which is called big shooting. For another example, according to the "Book of Rites. The King System", the family gave birth to a boy, and a bow should be hung on the left side of the door. When the king gave birth to a prince, he would shoot arrows to all corners of the sky and the earth. After the death of a man at home, he needs to put a finger and other shooting equipment on his right thumb. It can be seen that archery has gone deep into life.
Traditional Chinese archery has a long history and is one of the first sports to enter the education system. The preface in the teaching of Xuanxu during the Xia and Shang Dynasties was the place to practice shooting. Zhangbi Castle Shaolin Temple of Zen Bow can be called "Preface".
The bows in the Zen Bow Academy’s collection are mostly used in the middle of the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. The bows displayed are all traditional Chinese bows. It is a naked bow. I don’t want modern bows to have a complete set of accessories that can be used as reference for archers: archery, counterweight, aiming Mirror etc. The traditional Chinese bow is divided into two parts, the bow body and the bow string. The bow body is divided into the bow tip, the bow arm (upper bow arm, lower bow arm), the bow handle, and the ingot-shaped string pad. The function of the string pad is to absorb shock and prevent the bowstring from running.
Most of the exhibited bows belong to traditional recurve compound bows with tendons and horns. Tendons refer to the animal tendons and horns used in the bow body, mostly beef tendons and horns. Recursion refers to the bending of the tip of the bow when it is not wound. On display, the bowstring is in contact with the bow arm after winding. Composite refers to the production of multiple materials, not the concept of composite bow in the modern sense. The production process of this kind of bow is complicated, the materials used are various, and the workmanship and selection of materials must be based on the appropriate season and climate. Therefore, there is a saying that "make tendons in summer, take corners in spring, cut wood in winter, and combine autumn." According to a record in "Kao Gong Ji" during the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period, "The bow man made the bow", the "six materials" collectively called "dry, angle, tendon, glue, silk and lacquer" are the most important. "Dry" refers to the bow tire that is polished from bamboo and wood. Bamboo is mostly used in the south and wood is used in the north; "horn" is animal horn, mostly horn, which is made into thin slices and attached to the inside of the bow arm; "tendon" is animal After removing the protein, pull the tendon into a filament shape, and arrange the thin hair-like tendons on the outside of the bow arm; "glue" is fish glue, and other animal glues are also used, but fish glue is the best one for bonding Dry wood and corner tendons; “silk” refers to silk thread, the bow tube bound by the tendons is tightly wound with silk thread to make it firmer; “lacquer” refers to painting the bow
