History of the castle
Zhangbi Castle is a national cultural relics protection unit. It is located at the northern foot of Mianshan Mountain, ten kilometers southeast of Jiexiu. It was a must-pass place for Jiexiu to Mianshan in ancient times. It is also one of the important forts of the famous ancient military fortress Bird and Mouse Valley.The castle faces a ditch on three sides and a mountain on one side. The entire terrain is high in the south and low in the north, high in the west and low in the east, making it easy to defend and difficult to attack.Therefore, although the area is only 0.12 square kilometers, it has become a must-fight place for soldiers because of its dangerous geographical location.The remnants of multiple historical periods, the strange layout of the above-ground Ming Fort, the underground secret road, and the astrological village, the dense organs, and the mystery are extremely mysterious, have achieved the reputation of Zhangbi Castle as “The twin cities of Mingbao and the hidden road, and the museum village of Baoyuan Temple Courtyard”.Since its development, Zhangbi Castle has been rated as a national AAAA-level scenic spot for its rich historical and cultural relics and natural scenery, and has won honorary titles such as “China's Four Charming Towns”, “Famous Chinese Historical and Cultural Villages”, “Traditional Chinese ancient villages”, and “Famous tourist Landscape Villages with Chinese Characteristics”.The people of Zhangbi have a good tradition of caring for cultural relics. In 2005, Zhangbi Castle, with its rich historical and cultural heritage, was selected as one of the top ten charming towns in China along with Wuzhen, Zhejiang, and Xidihong Village, Anhui. In 2006, it was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit, a national-level historical and cultural village and a traditional Chinese village in Shuangliu, Shanxi Province.
In June 2009, in order to better protect state-owned cultural relics, the Jiexiu City Government entrusted Shanxi Kaijia Energy Group Co., Ltd. to be responsible for the protective development of Zhangbi Castle.The company has successively hired domestic planning units to complete and approve the "Zhangbi Castle Cultural Relics Protection Master Plan" and "Zhangbi Castle Tourism Development Master Plan". Zhangbi Castle was used as the location for filming.A number of domestic media such as CCTV, Qinghai Satellite TV, Shandong SATELLITE TV, etc. have filmed TV feature films in scenic spots.In 2017, the third episode of the fifth season of Hunan Satellite TV's large-scale parent-child interactive program "Where is Dad Going" was filmed in Zhangbi Castle.
